People look for a Hinge alternative for different reasons. Some are tired of writing clever prompt answers. Some want to hear a voice before investing in a chat. And some noticed that Hinge's in-app video calling is gone. This page sets out what Hinge is, using public sources, what Titli is, and when each makes more sense.
We make Titli, so read this knowing we are not neutral. Titli is not affiliated with or endorsed by Hinge.
What Hinge is
Hinge was released in 2012 by founder Justin McLeod. It has been fully owned by Match Group since February 2019, the company that also owns Tinder and OkCupid. In December 2025 McLeod stepped down to start an AI dating app, and Jackie Jantos became CEO.
Hinge is known for its slogan "designed to be deleted" and for a format based on profile prompts. Instead of a simple swipe, you like or comment on a specific photo or prompt answer, which gives the other person something concrete to reply to.
Hinge once offered voice and video calls inside the app. Its own help centre now says that voice and video calling was removed. Paid tiers are Hinge+ and HingeX.
What Titli is
Titli is a live video chat app made in India. It is listed in the Social category on Google Play, not Dating. It is built for meeting new people, and many adults use it for video dating: getting to know someone face to face on a call before anything else.
Titli is only for adults aged 18 and over (see our Terms).
Where Hinge asks you to craft a profile and react to someone else's, Titli starts with a conversation:
- Match: tap to connect. Match connects you with a member of the opposite gender at random for a 1-on-1 video call. Interest filters are optional; there are no age or location filters, and Match calls are billed per minute to the man.
- Explore lets you browse profiles in Popular and New lists, filter by country, and call someone from their profile.
- Private messages carry the conversation on afterwards, with text, photos, voice notes and gifts.
- Live streams and audio rooms give you lower-pressure ways to get to know people in a group.

Prompts versus presence
Hinge's prompts are a smart idea. A good answer about your favourite street food or worst travel story gives a match an easy opener. The catch is that everything happens in writing, and writing well about yourself is a skill not everyone has.
On Titli, nobody has to be witty in a text box. You see whether someone smiles easily, whether the conversation flows, and whether you want to talk again. For many people, especially those who feel awkward writing about themselves, that is simply easier. If you are new to it, our first video date tips will help.
Who should pick which
Pick Hinge if:
- You want a dating app focused on relationships with people you can meet in your city.
- You enjoy writing and reading thoughtful profiles before deciding to talk.
- You use an iPhone; Titli is Android only.
- You prefer slower, text-based conversations to calls.
Pick Titli if:
- You want to talk on video inside the app from the first minute.
- You want to chat in Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Gujarati, Urdu, Arabic or English.
- You want a place to meet new people online without writing a long profile.
- You like the idea of hanging out in audio rooms or live streams too.
Staying safe
Video dating is still dating with strangers. On Titli, every account is tied to a phone number or Google sign-in, your number is not shown, and you can block or report anyone from their profile or chat. Our Community Guidelines ban explicit content, harassment and scams. For more, see safe online dating.
