Azar vs Titli: two video match apps, two different audiences

If you are comparing an Azar alternative, you have probably already used video matching and liked it. That makes this an easy comparison to get wrong, because on the surface Azar and Titli look alike. We make Titli. We will be specific about where Azar is the stronger choice, because for some people it clearly is.

What Azar is

Azar is a 1-on-1 video chat app made by Hyperconnect, a company from Seoul, South Korea. It launched in 2014. In 2021, Match Group, the company behind Tinder, completed its purchase of Hyperconnect, so Azar is now part of Match Group.

The core experience is fast video matching: you are paired with someone, and you swipe to move to the next person. Azar is designed for conversations across countries. Match Group has described Azar as letting people video chat with others around the world, powered by real-time language translation. It is available on both Android and iOS.

Like many apps of this kind, Azar uses a paid in-app currency, called gems. Reviews widely report that paid options include filters such as gender and region. We have not listed prices, as they vary and change.

Where Azar and Titli are alike

It is worth being honest about the overlap:

• Both are built around 1-on-1 video calls with people you have not met.
• Both have a quick random matching flow you can start with one tap.
• Both use an in-app currency for paid features and gifts.
• Both have report and block tools inside the app.

If you only use the random match and nothing else, the two will feel fairly similar.

The three real differences

1. Who you are likely to meet

Azar is international by design. Its translation feature exists precisely because it connects people who do not share a language.

Titli is built in Noida with India in mind, and its nine app languages show it, although the app is on Google Play worldwide. The Match tab pairs you at random with an available member of the opposite gender, and you can narrow it with interest filters; there is no country filter in Match. If you want a conversation partner who shares your context, your cricket arguments and your festival plans, that focus helps. If you specifically want to meet someone in Brazil tonight, Azar is built for that.

2. How language is handled

Azar's approach is translation inside the conversation. Titli's approach is different: the app interface is available in nine languages, namely English, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Gujarati, Urdu and Arabic. 3. What happens beyond the match

Azar centres on the match itself. Titli adds more ways to spend time:

• Live streams, where hosts go live and viewers chat, send gifts, follow, and can ask to join as one of up to three on-screen guests.
• Audio rooms, audio-only party rooms with mic seats, eight by default. No camera needed to listen.
• Private messages with text, photos, voice notes and gifts.
• A Celebrities tab featuring profiles selected by the Titli team, some offering bookable private sessions.

How paying works on Titli

On Titli, coins are bought inside the app with UPI, cards or netbanking through secure payment gateways. Calls use coins, billed per minute, and virtual gifts are bought with coins too. Match tickets give a free match call for a limited number of seconds. An optional VIP membership adds a VIP badge, daily bonus coins, daily Match and Chat tickets, and the ability to see who visited your profile. Who should pick which

Choose Azar if you want to talk to people in other countries, you rely on translation to do it, you use an iPhone, or you simply prefer a focused swipe-and-match app from a large international company.

Choose Titli if you are in India, want to use the app in an Indian language, and like having live streams, audio rooms and messages in the same place as your video calls. Titli also suits people who want to see a profile and choose who to call, not only take whoever comes next.

Nothing stops you from keeping both on your phone for different moods.

Safety on each

Both apps let you report and block. On Titli, still snapshots may be captured during video calls and reviewed by moderation, with an indicator on screen and consent at signup.
